The people of Merseyside are being invited to vote for their favourite design for Liverpool's "Fourth Grace" waterfront development.

Liverpool Vision, the city's regeneration company, is calling on the public to decide on the "future of one of the city's universally recognised landmarks".

Four designs by internationally renowned architects will feature in an exhibition that opens next Tuesday in Liverpool.

A virtual model of Liverpool city centre, designed with the help of Salford University in Greater Manchester, will also be a centrepiece.

'Defining' development

Sir Joe Dwyer, chairman of Liverpool Vision, said: "This is a uniquely exciting development opportunity.

"But first and foremost the Pier Head and the waterfront belong to the people of Merseyside and that is why we want as many people as possible to come to the exhibition and tell us what they think."

He said the development would define Liverpool's ambitions for the 21st Century.

The final submissions for the four Grace designs will be submitted this Friday, before going on display.

'Glimpse future'

The exhibition, at the Walker Art Gallery from 12-17 November, will feature models and 3D computer images of the designs.

Designs have come from architects Lord Richard Rogers, Lord Norman Foster, Will Alsop and Edward Cullinan.

The model was produced in partnership with Salford University's Centre for Virtual Environments.

Creator Karen Padmore said it was the first time the model had been used.

She said: "Liverpool Vision...wanted a new and imaginative ways of engaging the people of Liverpool.

"It really does give you a glimpse into the future."
