| Monday, 28 October, 2002, 13:07 GMT York hosts National Flood Forum ![]() Stamford Bridge suffered flooding in 2000 The first National Flood Forum is meeting in York aiming to give homes and businesses practical advice about defending property from flooding. The conference, based at the city's racecourse, is being addressed by Floods minister Elliot Morley, who saw first-hand the difficulties the city encountered during the flooding of autumn 2000. The event will also provide a platform for community groups which have had first-hand experience of the effects of flooding. Organisers hope those taking part will receive support, knowledge and practical resources to help communities defend themselves from flooding. A 'Flood Fair' has been organised by the Environment Agency to let householders see the measures put in place by official agencies. This includes advice on additional precautions such as air brick covers and equipment to prevent flood waters coming through doors. | See also: 11 Aug 02 | England 12 Jun 02 | UK 12 Feb 01 | UK Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
