A group of disabled travellers say their holiday was spoiled by officials at East Midlands Airport.

Ronald and Doreen Peters, from Leicestershire, went to Majorca to celebrate their ruby wedding anniversary with two friends.

But when they arrived back in England they say petty rules meant they had to struggle 200 yards to get to their taxi.

Three of the four are disabled and although they had given their orange stickers to the cab driver he was not allowed to park in a disabled bay near the arrivals hall.

The couple say common sense should have been used by airport officials.

Mr Peters, from Leicester Forest East, said: "The taxi driver had to come back into the terminal to inform us that he wasn't allowed to park in the disabled spot.

"If he did do he would be clamped - he wasn't allowed to use the stickers if his passengers weren't in the car and he said he couldn't do that because we were on the plane."

The four then had to walk 200 yards to a short stay car park.

Mrs Peters said: "There is no give and take in the airport now - it used to be beautiful.

"Commonsense has gone out the window - I'm just hoping they change."

A statement from the airport reads: "Drivers collecting disabled passengers are unable to wait outside the front of the terminal even when displaying a disabled badge unless it belongs to them.

"For disabled passengers being picked up the drivers should park in the disabled spaces in the short stay car park opposite the terminal displaying the relevant badge.

"Once the passengers have arrived the driver can go to security and request entry to collect the disabled passengers.

"We are very sorry if this procedure hasn't been made clear."
