A jury has retraced the last known steps of 15-year-old Essex schoolgirl Danielle Jones who vanished more than a year ago.

Danielle was last seen walking towards a bus stop near her home in East Tilbury, Essex, on Monday 18 June last year.

Although her body has never been found, her uncle Stuart Campbell, of Grays in Essex, is on trial for her kidnap and murder.

The jury, judge Mr Justice McKinnon, detectives and legal teams spent about 30 minutes following the route the teenager would have taken.

Witness reports

They arrived by coach and started their walk at the home of the Jones family.

En route they stopped at various points where witnesses have reported seeing Danielle or a girl who looked like her on the morning she disappeared.

One witness said she saw a man arguing with a schoolgirl, who the prosecution claims was Danielle.

Another said he saw the teenager talking to a man in a blue Transit van, such as that which the prosecution says Mr Campbell owned.

The jury are also due to see Mr Campbell's house and the DIY store in Rayleigh where he claimed to have been at the time of Danielle's disappearance.

Mr Campbell, 44, who denies the charges, is not attending the location visits.

Schoolgirl 'fixation'

At Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday prosecutors outlined the case against him.

The jury has been told Mr Campbell had become "fixated" with the schoolgirl.

Orlando Pownall QC, prosecuting, said the fixation manifested itself in a number of ways and in the months before her disappearance, Danielle had grown tired of his advances.

The jury heard Mr Campbell, husband of Danielle's father's younger sister, had kept a diary almost exclusively dedicated to detailing his contact with his niece.
