The parents of a man from Northamptonshire who has been held in Egypt are flying out to see him.

It is six months since Ian Nesbit, 27, was arrested.

Mr Nesbit, 27, of Brackley, Northamptonshire, was among three Britons charged with being a member of the Islamic Liberation Group, a political party banned in Egypt but legal in the UK.

His parents believe he has been tortured.

'Blindfolded'

Alastair Nesbit, Ian's father, said: "They were beaten. They were shackled. They were handcuffed behind their backs.

"They were blindfolded for four or five days."

The other Britons being held are Reza Pankhurst, 27, an internet expert, and Maajid Nawaz, 24, a student at London's School of Oriental and African Studies.

The trio could face 15 years in prison.

Ian Nesbit was studying Arabic in Cairo at the time of the arrest.
