Police have named the two elderly women who died when a car crashed into a bus shelter in Lincolnshire.

The accident happened after a red Vauxhall Cavalier hit a bus shelter outside the Tesco supermarket on Beaumont Street, in Gainsborough at 1234 BST on Wednesday.

Ruth Harris, 84, from Walkeringham and Vera Moss, 80, from Haxey died in the accident.

Two other women, aged 66 and 80, and a 78-year-old man, all from Haxey, are still being treated at Lincoln County Hospital.

Police officers say the group were from a local warden controlled complex in the town.

Two young children who were in the car were taken to hospital but allowed home after treatment.

The 33-year-old male driver of the car, who has also been released from hospital, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
