The city council decided to sell the public convenience because it was being vandalised and was attracting drunks. The toilet is located in the increasingly fashionable west end, which is renowned for its bars and restaurants. The new owner is hoping to convert it into a high-class clothes shop.
The premises are approximately 550 feet square with any change of use being subject to planning approval. New owner, Iqbal Noor-Mohammed, who bought the property, wants to create a designer clothes shop. "People may laugh at a WC for 50,000 but it is alright. "But it is an expensive way to go to the loo, I guess." The building, which has a set of three toilets, two urinals and a couple of hand basins, was no longer fit for the public. Agents for the sale said they had over 20 viewings and bidding had started at 20,000. | See also: 16 Sep 02 | Scotland 13 Sep 02 | England 31 Jul 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
