| Wednesday, 18 September, 2002, 12:35 GMT 13:35 UK Man in court over machete attack ![]() The woman who died was serving in a supermarket A 25-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murdering a woman shopkeeper, who died after a machete attack. Keith Noel McDonald was remanded in custody for seven days during a hearing at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. He was charged with killing Balbir Kaur, 52, who died in hospital 24 hours after suffering head wounds at the Costcutter store in Birchfield Road, Aston, on Monday. Mr McDonald, of Hartington Road, Lozells, Birmingham, also faces a charge of wounding with intent following injuries to a second shopkeeper, Mohammed Jahingir. Mrs Kaur, from Perry Barr, was pronounced dead at 1145 BST on Tuesday by doctors at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Mr Jahingir, 26, suffered serious hand and arm injuries at a grocery in Lozells Road, Lozells, on Monday afternoon, four minutes after the incident in Aston. He is still in hospital. Mr McDonald, who spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address, was ordered to re-appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 25 September. |
