Merseyside Police are leading the operation with officers from Lancashire and Cheshire. Operation Coalition involves about 120 officers, and aims to stop criminals who travel between the three counties. Police in high-performance vehicles, and three aircraft, are being used.
The arrests so far are for offences including burglary and possession of controlled drugs. Property worth about 80,000 has been seized. Chief Inspector John Martin, from Merseyside Police, said the forces have worked together to get information on criminal activities. He added: "The offenders we are targeting often have little care for the safety of others on the roads, and in addition to car crime, may be involved in street crimes, or other criminal activity. "The arrests of these people will mean greater safety for the public, and less disruption to their everyday lives. "Criminals should be aware that there will be nowhere to hide." The operation is expected to continue until Friday. | See also: 12 Sep 02 | England 03 Sep 02 | England 16 Sep 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
