Unusual art goes on display
Upturned truck
An upturned truck is among the displays in the city
Artists from across the world are arriving in Liverpool for a ten-week festival.

Works of art are on display in public places across the city as part of the Liverpool Biennial International 2002.

Themes to be covered by the event are as diverse as media obsession, celebrity culture and terrorism.

Some of the more unusual works include an upturned truck and an interactive display of people's portraits.

Specially commissioned

More than three-quarters of the artwork has been specially commissioned for the city, and includes film, sculpture and photography.

The displays will be at venues including the Tate Liverpool, Lime Street Station, Williamson Square and Wolstenholme Square.

The Biennial is the second to be held in Liverpool, and has its own education and access programme for schools and community groups.

International 2002 is one of five strands in the Biennial, which runs from 14 September to 24 November.
