The officer was hit in the face by a rock after police tried to shut down the rave in Hurley, Maidenhead in Berkshire. PC Paul Killingley was treated at High Wycombe Hospital for a suspected fractured cheek bone and broken nose. Thames Valley Police said the incident was "a single act of aggression" and that most of the 300 people at the event were very co-operative.
Police received reports on Saturday night of the rave in a tunnel underneath the A404. The organisers of the event were spoken to by officers and they were happy to comply with shutting down the sound systems. A police spokesman said: "Control of the rave was ascertained very quickly. "However it appears that from a single act of aggression, an object was thrown from a few rows into the crowd which subsequently struck one of the officers." | See also: 21 Jul 02 | England 16 Jun 02 | England 04 Jan 02 | England 20 Aug 98 | Europe 13 May 01 | UK Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
