There was a lavish ceremony at St Andrew's Hall on Thursday night, for players, officials and fans. Other recipients of the honour, which dates back to the 14th Century, include Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington. Supporters along with past and present players came together to celebrate 100 years of the club, whose yellow and green strip earned players the nickname of The Canaries. Lord Mayor Derek Wood, a supporter for more than 50 years, said it was a great honour for him. "We are saluting a great institution of the city which has contributed much to our citizens lives over the last 100 years." He presented a ceremonial scroll to former club chairman Geoffrey Watling, now club president, to mark the honour. | See also: 13 Jul 02 | England 01 May 01 | Entertainment Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
