Inmates watching 'too many videos'
Young offender
The inmates are not getting enough work experience
Young offenders are watching too many videos and television and not getting enough education and work experience, a new report says.

The Chief Inspector of Prisons has criticised the Glen Parva Young Offenders Centre in Leicester for not offering inmates enough structured study and work.

A lack of adequate funding and proper management have been blamed.

Up to 30% of young offenders at Glen Parva had no access to work or education.

Bullying cut

Glen Parva governor Charles Bushell said he would not be able to improve the situation without more money.

Inspectors arrived at the centre for an unannounced four-day fact-finding inspection in March, but the report's findings have just been released.

Despite the criticism, the report said there had been some improvements in inmate safety and some progress had been made since the last inspection.

Staff were praised for bringing down the rates of bullying and self-harm at the centre.
