Boy dies after quarry jump
Gullett Quarry, Castlemorton, Malvern Hills
Warning signs had been put up
A teenager who got into difficulty after diving into water at a Worcestershire beauty spot has died.

The boy, who has not yet been named, was hauled from Gullett Quarry on the Malvern Hills on Monday afternoon after jumping 40ft into the water.

He was taken to Worcestershire Royal Infirmary and later transferred to Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham where he died.

New warning signs were put up at the quarry, near Castlemorton, after a teenager drowned at the same spot last July.

'Access right'

Yunus Moolla, 17, had been attending an end-of-term barbeque with other business studies students from the Central Technology College, in Gloucester.

Ian Rowat, Director of the Malvern Hills Conservators, said it would be impossible to close the site to the public.

He told BBC Radio Hereford and Worcester: "You can't make the whole site safe and also there is the interest of ordinary walkers and people enjoying the countryside who have a right of access to it.

"We will listen to the Health and Safety Executive, the police reports and everything else but it is an open piece of countryside and unfortunately if people are determined enough to find their way into the water they will do."

He said that the most important thing was to make sure that the amount of swimming that took place at the site was limited.
