The letter was destined for the star's apartment on Fifth Avenue, New York. Instead it was delivered to 60-year-old Irene Stoner's semi-deteached home at Fifth Avenue, York. "I wonder if he is getting my mail," she said.
"Because he is welcome to it all. "All I get is junk mail and bills." Mrs Stoner has lived in York's Fifth Avenue for 15 years. This is not the first time she has received letters for New York, although this one was different. "I thought it was rather funny and posted it back the next morning. "I like his films and it's funny to think I could be getting his mail." York's Fifth Avenue in the Tang Hall area of the city is a far cry from its namesake across the Atlantic with its skyscrapers and designer stores. But a spokesman for the Royal Mail said he did not know how the mix- up had occurred. | See also: 23 Aug 02 | Entertainment 12 Jun 02 | England 17 May 02 | Entertainment Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
