Fifth death could be Legionnaires'
June Miles, 56
A post-mortem is being carried out on Mrs Miles
The police are investigating a fifth death as part of their inquiries into the outbreak of Legionnaires' Disease in Barrow-in-Furness.

June Miles, who was 56 and had four children, lived in West Way in Barrow, Cumbria, and died at home on Saturday.

Morecambe Bay Hospitals NHS Trust has confimed that Ms Miles had been treated in Furness General Hospital for the disease in early August, but was discharged three weeks ago.

It is not yet known if her death was related to the legionnella infection.

Post-mortem

Ian Cumming, chief executive of the Morecambe Bay Hospitals NHS Trust, said Ms Miles had made "a good recovery" before being discharged.

In a statement, he said: "It cannot be confirmed at this stage that her death was definitely related to her Legionella infection."

A post-mortem examination has been carried out, but the results are not expected to be revealed until later on Wednesday when an inquest will be opened at Barrow County Court.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police told BBC News Online: "This is a death we are investigating in connection with the Legionnaires' outbreak."

The outbreak at Barrow-in-Furness of the pneumonia-like illness is the UK's biggest, with 131 confirmed cases.

It was traced to air conditioning equipment at the borough council's Forum 28 arts and civic centre.
