| Tuesday, 13 August, 2002, 15:26 GMT 16:26 UK Virus outbreak affects hospital ![]() So far 16 wards have been affected by the outbreak Almost 100 patients and staff have been infected with a stomach virus at the Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry. The virus, which causes diarrhoea and vomiting, has affected 16 wards. More than 60 patients have shown symptoms of the bug, which has not yet been identified, and some 30 members of staff are off sick. Hospital spokesman John Richardson said: "It's a very uncomfortable disease for those who have it but it's not life-threatening." Latest outbreak He added sufferers recover after 48 to 72 hours. It is the second time in the last six months the hospital has been affected by a stomach bug. The outbreak comes a week after the Norwalk virus - also known as the winter vomiting bug - swept through hospitals in the West Country.
