Clubbers leafleted over 'cold-blooded murder'
Damian Cope
Damian Cope was shot outside a London nightclub
Police have returned to a nightclub in central London to appeal for witnesses a week after a "cold-blooded murder" took place.

Damian Cope, 22, was shot in the stomach outside trendy Brown's nightclub in Holborn at about 0100 BST on 29 July.

Detectives revisited the area in the early hours of Monday and handed out leaflets to clubbers to see if they had seen anything seven days earlier.

Six people were spotted near the murder scene, but they ran off and got into three cars - a black and a silver BMW and a Peugeot.

I want whoever did this to have their day in court and I want justice for Damian

Lucy Cope

It is thought that when Mr Cope was in the nightclub he received a phone call on his mobile from someone he knew.

He went outside and walked to the junction of Great Queen Street and Newton Street, where he was shot once in the stomach with a small calibre handgun.

Mr Cope died six hours later in hospital.

Detective Chief Inspector Duncan Wilson said: "It was a very warm summer night and the area would have been fairly busy at the time of the shooting.

"Did you see a number of people milling around on the corner of Great Queen Street at around 1am or perhaps you saw the shooting occur?"

Woman arrested

Damian's mother, Lucy Cope, said her son was "so loved and well respected".

"I can't understand why someone would want to kill him.

"This was a cold-blooded murder and I want the person who did this to give himself up to the police.

"I want whoever did this to have their day in court and I want justice for Damian."

A 22-year-old woman from Willesden was arrested in the Marble Arch area on 29 July in connection with the inquiry.

She was bailed to return to a north London police station in August, pending further inquiries.
