The Queen has visited a Sikh temple and a space centre as she continues her nationwide Golden Jubilee tour.

Arriving with the Duke of Edinburgh on the Royal Train in Leicester, the Queen met representatives of the Sikh community at the Gurdhwara temple in the city.

The Queen's visit was her first to a Sikh temple in the UK.

Her visit on Wednesday to a mosque in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, was also a first.

The royal couple have stressed the importance of including all Britain's major faiths in the Jubilee celebrations.

However, the Queen's visit to Nottingham on Wednesday was marred when eggs were thrown at her Rolls Royce.

Two teenagers have been charged with disorderly conduct.

As the couple arrived at Leicester railway station, the Queen was presented with flowers by Hannah Smith, who suffers from cystic fibrosis.

"I was excited and pleased and shocked," said Hannah.

"She was a nice lady, but I was a bit scared as well."

Prince Philip later opened a visitor centre at Leicester Cathedral.

The royals visited the National Space Centre where the Queen spoke with the UK's first astronaut, Helen Sharman.

In Derby, the royal couple were due to watch a parade of 50 years of life in Derbyshire.

At least 30,000 were expected to watch the parade at Pride Park in Derby.

At the start of the parade 18,440 gold balloons were being released, one for each day of the Queen's 50-year reign.
