| Wednesday, 17 July, 2002, 15:35 GMT 16:35 UK Fury as plane fans block road ![]() A huge crowd is expected to see the planes this year Dozens of plane spotters on their way to an international air show blocked the roads around the airbase on Wednesday, to the fury of lorry drivers. The enthusiasts had begun arriving outside RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire at dawn to see the first of 450 planes fly in from around the world for this weekend's event. A car park had not opened so the planespotters parked in a narrow lane and on verges. Several lorry drivers called police when they found Washpool Lane, Kempsford, near Fairford blocked with the spotters' vehicles.
"Several others were unable to reach their destinations in the same road. "We had calls from just after 7am until about an hour later when the park and view car park finally opened." This weekend's Royal International Air Tattoo is the first to be held at Fairford for three years and is expected to attract 200,000 spectators.
