A house extension built without planning permission could be bulldozed because the homeowner refuses to pull it down.

Sylvester Nseowo has already been fined more than �20,000 for ignoring demands by planners to demolish the building in Shropshire.

Neighbours said the half-built extension is an eyesore affecting the value of their properties in Checkley Lane in the St George's area of Telford.

Planners are taking further legal action and said the bulldozers could be brought in if Mr Nseowo refuses to knock down the building.

Neighbour Colin Evans said: "I just cannot put in to words how horrendous it is.

"The front of the house looks lovely on a lovely estate but the rear looks terrible."

Fellow neighbour Caroline Hartley said: "I think it's going to affect the value of properties when we come to sell.

"I don't think we are going to be able to sell.

Mr Nseowo claims he is constructing "a beautiful and expensive extension".

A judge has already described the building work as "a clear and blatant breach of planning law".

But Mr Nseowo has steadfastly refused to take the building down.

In a letter to planners he said: "The land does not belong to Telford and Wrekin council.

"Therefore you are irrelevant.

"Your views stop where my land begins. Do you understand that I have every right to build on my land?"
