Glamour model Jordan has had treatment for a rare form of cancer, and is awaiting test results to see if the disease has spread further.

It is a further blow to the model, whose two-month-old baby Harvey was born with incurable blindness.

The cancer, leiomyosarcoma, attacks the smooth muscle cells found in most parts of the body and can spread aggressively.

Jordan - real name Katie Price - told the News of the World she was alerted to the malignant growth on her finger by her manicurist.

The 24-year-old said she had the lump removed at the Nuffield Hospital near her home in Brighton.

She will have more tests next month to see if the cancer has spread.

"I'm absolutely reeling from the news," she told the paper.

"I couldn't believe that, after all that has happened recently, I was now sitting in a doctor's room being told I have cancer.

"But Harvey is my inspiration, my reason for living and beating this thing."

Survival rate

The cancer is extremely rare, accounting for less than 1% of all cancers.

It can spread to other parts of the body by sending tiny clumps of tumour cells into the blood stream.

If caught early, it is treatable, with a high chance of recovery.

In more advanced cases, there is a 50% chance of survival.

Jordan's manager Dave Read told the newspaper: "Jordan hasn't even really begun to get to grips with Harvey's condition, never mind having to deal with cancer.

"But, that said, Jordan is a trouper - if anyone can beat this cancer, she can."
