Thursday's elections were the first since President Musharraf seized power in a coup three years ago  There were 65,000 polling stations across this widely diverse country  Authorities took extra security measures, but already at least two people have been killed  Turnout was light as the polling stations opened, but gradually gathered pace  More than 300 international observers were on hand, amid claims of voter manipulation  Voters were segregated and women voted in female-only booths  Few women are thought to have voted in conservative tribal areas, though, after elders warned them not to  Opinion polls indicate a close race between the pro-Musharraf PML-Q and Benazir Bhutto's PPP party | |
