| Thursday, 8 August, 2002, 16:57 GMT 17:57 UK Indian police swoop on politician Police in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu have raided a number of premises connected with the leader of the MDMK, Vaiko, in a search for evidence linking the party to Sri Lanka's separatist Tamil Tigers. Police searched the MP's house as well as the MDMK's party offices in the cities of Madras and Madurai. The MDMK is part of the country's ruling coalition. Vaiko was arrested last month, under anti-terrorism laws, for comments he allegedly made in support of the Tigers, who are banned in India. A total of eleven people have been arrested for supporting the Tigers, including eight other MDMK members as well as the leader of the Tamil Nationalist Movement, P Nedumaran.
