| Wednesday, 11 December, 2002, 10:43 GMT UN searches site revealed by dossier ![]() Inspectors spent the night at al-Qaem United Nations weapons inspectors have reportedly begun searching a site identified by the Iraqis in their weapons dossier, as well as sites once associated with the country's nuclear and ballistic missile programmes. The inspectors headed for a complex called the "Strategic Storage Unit", which an inspector described as "one of the new sites that was given in the declaration", Reuters news agency reported.
Iraq made its weapons declaration to comply with a UN Security Council that saw weapons inspectors return to the country after a four-year absence. In New York, chief weapons inspector Hans Blix said he expected to be able to give copies of Iraq's 12,000-page declaration to all 15 Security Council members on Monday. Washington sparked a row over the document earlier this week by taking charge of copying and distributing it to the four other permanent members of the Security Council - but not to the 10 rotating ones. The rotating members - who are not nuclear powers - are to receive edited versions of the report. Return visit Wednesday saw the weapons inspectors make a second visit to the Karama complex in a northern suburb of Baghdad. The site has been associated with ballistic missile and biological programmes in the past. A new group of inspectors arrived in Iraq on Tuesday, bringing the total to 70. By the end of the month there are expected to be about 100 inspectors in the country. Unmovic inspectors went to a total of 10 sites near Baghdad on Tuesday including:
