The Israeli Army launched its operation to take control of the compound under cover of darkness on Thursday (AP)  Israel demanded suspected militants surrender, but said those who gave themselves up were not the men they wanted  Explosions later rocked Mr Arafat's compound, destroying buildings all around him (AP)  The siege continued on Friday, with troops surrounding the compound and digging a trench round Mr Arafat's office building  On Saturday, Israeli troops finally entered the main office building, heavily damaged but still standing  Israeli forces were systematically destroying every building in the compound - bar that used by Mr Arafat (AP)  Troops asserted their control by exchanging a Palestinian flag for an Israeli one on the rooftop of the remaining building  But the Palestinians released a picture showing Mr Arafat continued to work, with his gun just an arm's length away | |
