| Thursday, 18 July, 2002, 11:02 GMT 12:02 UK Story of a suicide bombing ![]() 20 people died in the 18 June attack On 18 June, Palestinian student Mohammed al-Ghoul boarded a rush-hour bus in Jerusalem. Once inside the bus packed with children, students and commuters he detonated the nail-packed explosives strapped around his body. He killed 20 people including himself and caused terrible injuries to many more. The horror of the event captured headlines around the world that day. But as with other such bombings the world's attention moved on and the attack became another entry in the long list of tragedies that have shattered lives. One month on, BBC News Online revisits the event to tell the stories of some of those still trying to come to terms with the way their lives were affected on that morning, and asks what led the bomber to destroy so many lives.
