Africa's role models
Nelson Mandela
Is Nelson Mandela your role model?
Africa Live! wants your opinions on Africa's role models.

Who do you think best represent Africa on the world stage? Statesmen like Nelson Mandela and Kofi Annan, or sports stars like El Hadji Diouf?

We want to hear from you.

I wonder if there are any African role models. Apart from Nelson Mandela and Kofi Annan, I hardly see any African role models on the political front. On the sporting front, football players (some of them, that is) inspire enough hope in the younger generations. In other areas of national life, role models may exist at local level.

In terms of country Senegal is Africa's role model

Abdirizak Sharif Idris, Tennessee, USA
But they are far between. African youth are in dire need of African role models, people who can, through their selfless performance, bring hope, spur young people into concrete, positive action, and effect change for the good of the continent. I hope that that day will soon come when Africa's youth will not have to look beyond the continent's frontiers for role models.
Asonglefac Nkemleke, Cameroon (resident in the U.S.)

In terms of country Senegal is Africa's role model. In terms of leader, why not Nelson Mandela. I dream of Africa without a bully. Africa needs young leaders to overcome the bullies of the developed countries. Let's hope for a fair referee so that we can stun the rest of the world.
Abdirizak Sharif Idris, Tennessee, USA

Africa's role models are Nelson Mandela, Steve Biko, Kwame Nkurumah, Julius Nyerere, President Wade and President Museveni. Women role models Winniw Mandela, Ambassador Sheila Sisulu, Ugandan VP Dr. Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe.
