Company tackles bridge concerns

Concerns about Jersey's proposed Waterfront bridge have been addressed by the company behind the project.

In a question and answer paper the Waterfront Enterprise Board (WEB) outlined the 10 most common concerns raised by islanders.

Islanders had raised a number of questions about the bridge, which will link the Waterfront complex to St Helier.

Concerns ranged from interest in where the idea came from to how much the project will cost.

People were also keen to know what would happen to the scheme if a phone poll finds the public object to the bridge being built.

WEB said the bridge will provide an easy way of getting to and from the waterfront and it will be paid for by selling land on the waterfront and not from States department budgets.

The company also said islanders' views will be taken into account but it will look to the Planning and Environment Committee for the final decision on whether the bridge should be built.

A new model of the structure will go on show in Jersey later this month.

Mike Taylor, the chief architect of the project, is also due to visit the island to give a presentation of the plans and answer questions.

Members of the public can attend the event, which will be at the Town Hall on 21 February.
