| Thursday, 22 August, 2002, 07:35 GMT 08:35 UK Leni Riefenstahl turns 100 The controversial German film-maker and photographer, Leni Riefenstahl, who's been criticised for her close co-operation with the Nazis, is 100 on Thursday. She's still working, and last week released a new documentary -- her first in almost 50 years. It's an underwater film shot by herself on dives in the Indian Ocean over the past 25 years. Miss Riefenstahl's most famous films are Triumph of the Will, a record of the Nazi rally in Nuremberg in 1934, and Olympia, about the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin. She never joined the Nazi party and was cleared by post-war tribunals of any wrongdoing, but critics say her work glorified Hitler and helped legitimise the Nazis in Germany.
