| Sunday, 5 January, 2003, 19:02 GMT Girls Aloud hold top spot ![]() Girls Aloud remain top for a third week All-female group Girls Aloud have begun the new year as the number one act in the UK singles chart. The group that was formed from the ITV1 talent show Popstars: The Rivals held on to their position for the third week on Sunday with their song Sound of the Underground.
It comes after they successfully bagged the coveted Christmas number one spot from their male counterparts on Popstars, One True Voice. Their song, Sacred Trust, continued its downwards journey in the chart, slipping from number three to five. One True Voice were again outsold by the Cheeky Girls' Cheeky Song - another product of the Popstars show - which went up to second place from three. In the rest of the chart, Eminem's Lose Yourself rose from five to three. Daniel Bedingfield rose from number six to four with If You're Not The One.
Blue and Sir Elton John fell from four to six with Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word. The highest new entry was Land of the Living from dance act Milk Inc. In the album charts, Avril Lavigne's Let Go rose from four to number one to knock Robbie Williams' Escapology off the top spot after several weeks. Pink's Missundaztood remained in the number three position for a second week. Blue dropped from two to four with One Love while Coldplay went up four places to number five. John McMahon, of Eccleshall, Staffordshire, was killed when the band's touring Chrysler Voyager left the road and hit a telegraph pole. |
