BBC One's Breakfast presenter Sophie Raworth has said farewell to the programme after working on it for more than five years.

She is leaving the three-hour news and current affairs programme on to co-present BBC One's Six O'Clock News next year with George Alagiah.

Her seat will be filled by Natasha Kaplinsky, who will join existing presenter Dermot Murnaghan on the sofa on Monday, after leaving her job at Sky News.

Raworth's departure from Breakfast follows shortly after that of her former co-presenter Jeremy Bowen.

He left in September to concentrate on writing a book, before returning to foreign reporting.

Murnaghan read out good luck messages sent in by viewers, while a montage of flashbacks showed the array of male presenters who had joined Raworth on Breakfast.

They included Jon Sopel, Bill Turnbull, Darren Jordan and Justin Webb.

"I love them all but I think it's time to move on - now I have reached double figures," Raworth said.

She added that she remembered being in her bathroom at 3am on her first day, thinking: "I am not going to make it to the end of the week, let alone to the end of the year."

Murnaghan presented her with a bound album of messages which included photographs of Raworth, the people who work on Breakfast and BBC director general Greg Dyke.
