Pink's shirt causes red faces
Complaints have been upheld against a children's TV show during which pop star Pink wore a T-shirt with a swearword logo.

The Independent Television Commission (ITC) upheld complaints against the UK Saturday morning show CD:uk after the singer wore the T-shirt on a programme in September.

The performance by the star, who recently had a hit with the single Just Like a Pill, had been pre-recorded and provided by her record company.

Producers LWT expressed "sincere regret" at their oversight - but the ITC said it was a clear breach of their programme code.

Concert cancelled after tornado

Rock star Beck was forced to cancel a concert in Mexico after the stage was destroyed by a tornado.

Beck and the Flaming Lips were due to play at the World Sound Festival in Acapulco on Saturday.

But the show was scrapped because "a tornado blew the stage apart before they were able to play", Beck's website said.

The artists are due to resume their joint US tour later in November.

Unions threatens Rolling Stones gigs

United States union bosses have threatened to shut down two Rolling Stones concerts if the promoter does not use union workers.

The rock legends are due to play at Pac Bell Park, home of the San Francisco Giants, at the weekend.

But 50 people picketed the venue on Monday as trucks began bringing in equipment.

"They want to bring in kids to work for $6 or $7 (3.85 or 4.50) an hour and give them a T-shirt," William Cromartie, president of Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 85, said.

Golden Girl in elephant protest

Veteran actress Bea Arthur, who played Dorothy in TV comedy The Golden Girls, has taken up a campaign against cruelty to baby elephants in Thailand.

The US star delivered a giant card to the Thai consulate in Sydney, Australia, where she is performing.

The campaign is run by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, who are protesting against the training of elephants to be used as tourist attractions.

"The whole idea of preparing elephants for circuses and rides, it's so dumb, it's just idiotic," Arthur said.

Queen Victoria portrait auctioned

A miniature portrait of Queen Victoria is expected to fetch up to 7,000 at auction on Tuesday.

The portrait, set in a gold bracelet, was given to the monarch's lady-in-waiting before her coronation in 1837.

The artwork, by Sir William Ross, is mentioned in Victoria's journal and was given to Lady Durham before the lady-in-waiting and her husband left for Canada.

It is being sold at Bonham's auctioneers in London.

Animators enjoy Monster year

Animated film hit Monsters, Inc has helped its creators, film studio Pixar, report its highest profit ever.

The company has attributed the record profit to bumper sales of Monsters, Inc DVDs.

Pixar Animation Studios made almost $47m (30m) profit in the latest quarter - up from $6m (3.8m) in the same period in 2001.

Pixar also produced Toy Story and Toy Story 2, and its next film, Finding Nemo, is released in the US in May 2003.
