| Thursday, 18 July, 2002, 14:45 GMT 15:45 UK UK talent shines in Emmy nods ![]() Albert Finney's Churchill was widely praised UK programmes and actors have won more than two dozen nominations for this year's Emmy awards. UK actors dominate in the category of lead actor in a miniseries or movie, taking three out of five nominations. Albert Finney's portrayal of Winston Churchill in The Gathering Storm is up against Kenneth Branagh for Shackleton, and Sir Michael Gambon as President Lyndon Johnson in Path To War.
Vanessa Redgrave was also nominated as outstanding lead actress for her role in the film, and Jim Broadbent - who won as Oscar this year for his performance in Iris - received the outstanding supporting actor nod. Channel 4's Shackleton also shone, with seven nominations including that for Branagh, as well as writing, cinematography and music. Diana Rigg was nominated for supporting actress for her role as Lehzen in the BBC production Victoria and Albert. UK productions received many technical nominations. Given a nod for non-fiction cinematography was the BBC series The Human Face, which was presented by John Cleese.
Another UK musician, Sting, received a nod for outstanding performance in a music programme, for his televised concert Sting In Tuscany. And veteran rocker Ozzy Osbourne was recognised in a nod for tongue-in-cheek reality TV series The Osbournes, in the outstanding non-fiction programme category. The nominations were announced in Los Angeles by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
