| Friday, 7 February, 2003, 11:51 GMT Spector house victim shot in face ![]() Clarkson was found dead in Phil Spector's house A gunshot to the face killed B-movie actress Lana Clarkson, the woman found dead at music producer Phil Spector's house, coroners have revealed. Ms Clarkson, 40, was found dead in a pool of blood on the marble entranceway of Mr Spector's Los Angeles home on Monday. Los Angeles County Coroner's officials have performed an autopsy on Ms Clarkson's body but are still to release their full findings.
Mr Spector, 62, famous for his work with acts such as The Beatles and Tina Turner, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and released on $1m (�625,000) as he awaits formal charges. "The coroner has not finalised the cause of death because they have other tests they have to perform," coroner's spokesman David Campbell said. "We wait to have as many facts as possible before we make a ruling," he said. "That's absolutely normal." Police believe the murder weapon was a handgun found on the floor of the house's foyer.
Other weapons were also seized during the search of Mr Spector's mock-castle home. Prosecutors say they could file murder charges against the producer as early as next week. Ticket collector Ms Clarkson had appeared in TV shows such as Knight Rider and The A-Team as well as several B-movies during her career. Police believe she met Mr Spector at blues club on Los Angeles' Sunset Strip, where she was working as a ticket collector, on Sunday night. Officers were called to Mr Spector's house at around 5am (1300GMT) Monday after the producer's driver heard gunshots from inside the house.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said no-one else was being sought in connection with the killing. The front of Mr Spector's house was sealed off by officers after the discovery of Ms Clarkson's body. They examined a black Mercedes car parked in the driveway and forensic teams searched the house. Musical career Neighbours said the reclusive multi-millionaire, who reportedly lived alone, had not been seen at the house recently. Mr Spector is considered a pioneer in rock music production and is famed for his influential technique, known as the Wall of Sound, which featured soaring orchestration and multi-layered vocals. It became a trademark of some of the most acclaimed pop hits of the 1960s, such as The Crystals' Da Doo Ron Ron and the Ronettes' Be My Baby.
