President Fernando Henrique Cardoso has signed a decree creating the largest tropical forest reserve in the world. The Tumucumaque National Park in Brazil's Amazonian state of Amapa will be home to many unidentified plants and unique animal species.
The park is in one of least accessible regions of the Amazon, with dense forests and impassable rivers
The Jaguar is one of the larger mammals inhabiting the Tumucumaque forests
The area is also home to at least eight primate species
The freshwater turtle is typical of the Brazilian Amazon
Conservationists believe the reserve contains many unidentified plants and unique animal species
