The unclassified road was blocked for five hours |
A coach party of elderly tourists had to be evacuated from their bus after it became stuck in a lane for five hours. The 38 passengers from Hull, some with disabilities, were looked after at a nearby nursing home in Carmarthenshire until a replacement vehicle arrived.
It is understood the coach was directed onto the narrow lane by a satellite navigation system, after an accident closed the Carmarthen east by-pass.
The coach was eventually freed by a farmer using a JCB and a chainsaw.
The drama unfolded on an unclassified road between Llangunnor and Capel Dewi.
There were major tailbacks on the by-pass after a vehicle overturned during Monday morning's rush hour.
A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said they received a call at about 1000 BST informing them that coach was stuck as it attempted a detour.
"The position of the vehicle was such that it could not manoeuvre to exit the lane," she added.
"The passengers, many being elderly and some disabled, were evacuated from the vehicle to a local nursing home."
She said they were collected by a separate vehicle and continued their journey home to Hull.
"The lane was blocked for approximately five hours," she added.
