The class were lost - without ever reaching the famous maze |
A group of children had to abandon a school trip before even arriving - after a driver followed his satellite navigation to the wrong destination. The Hampshire youngsters were heading for Hampton Court Palace, but ended up 18 miles away at a narrow north London street named Hampton Court.
They eventually headed back to Orchard Lea Junior School, in Fareham.
Zenith Coach Travel have offered the children a free trip to compensate, and have banned drivers from using sat nav.
 | We have apologised profusely to the school |
The children, all aged eight and nine, spent the day being driven around London as the driver and teachers struggled to find the historic palace in Surrey.
They reached a small road with the same name in Islington, north London, before getting stuck in traffic and roadworks.
Trip leaders eventually decided to call it a day, and headed back on the 80 mile return trip.
A spokesman from Zenith, based in Lee-on-Solent, said: "We have apologised profusely to the school and have offered a free trip whenever they want to take it.
"It has never happened before but we are asking drivers to go back to the old ways of using a map from now on."
