It was argued Carmarthen was more central for people in west Wales
Carmarthen has won the battle to host the Urdd eisteddfod when it visits Carmarthenshire in two years time.

Several towns in the county, including Llanelli and Llandeilo, wanted to hold the youth festival, which attracts up to 100,000 visitors each year.

Several sites were looked at before the showground at Nantyci was chosen.

Llanelli said it was best equipped to stage it at the Millennium Coastal Park but some in the west of the county said Carmarthen was more central.

St Clears, Cynwyl Elfed and Llangunnor community councils were among those campaigning for Nantyci, home to the United Counties Show, on the outskirts of Carmarthen.

Eisteddfod director Sin Eirian said: "We discussed several locations very carefully.

"It was necessary to consider technical demands, practical issues as well as the financial obligations.

"On the basis of these criteria it was decided that the most suitable location is Nantyci."

She said it had ample car parking, room for caravans, water and electricity supplies and was widely accessible and convenient.

"The show field is an exceptionally pleasant location and we are completely confident it is the most suitable location.," added Ms Eirian.
