Grieving parents' safety petition
Craig Lucas
Craig Lucas apparantly fell in the water
The parents of a man whose body was found in the River Tawe have started a petition to improve safety in and around Swansea Marina.

Legal executive Craig Lucas, 21, was found in the river after apparently falling in following a night out.

His mother and father, Charlotte and Malcolm Lucas, have said there are not enough railings around the river and the marina in Swansea to prevent people falling in the water.

They want Swansea council to improve safety by placing barriers all around the marina area.

The council is in the process of carrying out a risk audit of the marina area.

A report on its findings is due in June.

The council said improvements had already been made to paving and lighting.

A spokesman added: "The report is part of our on-going management of the marina.

"It will look at existing safety provision and possible proposals for the future.

"As always, we are keen to work alongside the Health and Safety Executive to ensure the appropriate safety measures are in place."

Divers

Mr Lucas was reported missing after he returned to return home to Llanelli following a night out in Swansea.

An appeal for information was launched, but his body was not found for almost two weeks.

It was recovered from the River Tawe by police divers on 12 April.

Mr Lucas, of Havelock Street, Llanelli, worked for Llansamlet solicitors John Collins after graduating from Coventry University in 2002.

An inquest into Mr Lucas's death will be held at a later date.
