Fashion designer Julien Macdonald is to receive an award from the University of Wales, Newport. The Merthyr-born Royal College of Art graduate has dressed many stars, including Kylie Minogue, Joely Richardson and Martine McCutcheon.
Macdonald will not be able to pick up the honorary fellowship in person as he is preparing for London Fashion Week later this month.
He launched his own label in 1997, only a year after graduating.
"Julien MacDonald has made a major contribution to UK fashion," said vice-chancellor Professor James Lusty.
"It is with great pleasure that the university, which has its own strong research and teaching interest in fashion, awards him an honorary fellowship".
It is hoped the designer will be able to pick up the award in person at a later date.

While still a student, Karl Lagerfeld asked Macdonald to produce knitwear designs for Chanel and on graduation he set up his own company. In 2001, the old boy of Cyfarthfa High School in Merthyr was named British Designer of the Year.
He also designs Kylie Minogue's costumes for her world tour.
Macdonald was creative director for Givenchy for three years and has designed new uniforms for airline BA, which will be launched later this year.
