People spend five minutes getting to know each other |
Single Muslims looking for marriage are to be given the opportunity to meet potential partners at a special speed dating event in Cardiff. The event, the first of its kind to be held in Wales, is designed to provide people with the opportunity to meet at least 30 potential dates with people from the same faith and culture.
Organisers of Speed Intros say that the event will help single Muslims find their own marriage partner rather than the traditional practice of relying on family introductions.
Haras Ahmed, who runs the event with his wife Ayesha, said: "It involves 30 Muslim guys and 30 Muslim women who are all professionals and looking to meet a partner.
"The women will be seated, while the men will move around the room going from table to table meeting and talking for about five minutes.
"Each person will have a score card and will tick off whether they liked the person or not."

After the 25-per head event, the organisers go through the cards matching up the couples and send out a confidential email 48-hours later listing the first names and email addresses of the people who liked each other.
Speed Intros claim to be the only speed match-making service run exclusively by Muslims for Muslims and they ensure that no alcohol or non-halaal food is provided at the event.
They also have a policy of ensuring that only Muslim professionals committed to finding a partner for marriage, attend the speed dating night.
Mr Ahmed said that Muslim traditions often mean that families have a major influence in finding their children marriage partners.
"This event is desirable for people who want to get married and it gives people the chance to find their own partners," he said.
Mr Ahmed said that the concept had been borrowed from America, where members of the Jewish community set up a similar event for people to meet potential partners from the same faith.
"Speed dating events for Muslims have been going in London for quite a few months and are really popular," said Mr Ahmed.
"But this is the first time it has been done in Cardiff and should be really good fun. We are expecting tickets to sell fast."
Tickets for the event which is to be held at the Holiday inn in Cardiff city centre on 20 September are available from 07949 936293
