While 60 single women signed up in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, there were only six men.

Two events in the town have been cancelled because the number of women dramatically outweighed the men.

Speed dating involves 30 men and 30 women meeting in a hotel and finding out as much as they can about possible partners in three minutes.

Dating cards

Both sexes are given dating cards and tick boxes against the people they are interested in.

The cards are handed in at the end of the night and email addresses are exchanged.
