The Ty Mawr development on land between Llanfairpwll and Menai Bridge would potentially offer 1,300 jobs in shops, restaurants, and a multiplex cinema.

Objectors claim the plans would have a detrimental effect on the environment and will not benefit the island.

Developers deny this and say the park will complement its surroundings and bring economic benefits to the area.

The development will cover 55 acres, some 600 metres from the Britannia Bridge, just off the junction with the A5025.

A spokesman for developers Ynys Mon Estates LLP said the park had been designed to complement its natural surroundings.

"The development has been designed to fit in with its existing locality, which includes giving all cultural factors, especially the importance of the Welsh language, their rightful status," said a spokeswoman.

Job opportunities would also stem depopulation from the island, she added.

There were also plans to set aside part of the site close to the Bluebell Wood and Burial Chamber as an interpretive centre.

The public displays would provide an opportunity for the company to "explain more about the development and receive feedback directly from the community", she added.

Gwynne Owen, a local member of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales (CPRW) said he had been through the plans carefully.

"We are particularly worried about the effects on traffic, possible queues of cars trying to access the site and a lack of public transport.

"It is above an area great beauty and is not a sustainable development. There is no need for it on Anglesey," Mr Owen added.

Public exhibitions will be held at the Memorial Hall, Llanfairpwll, on 7 February and Menai Bridge Community Centre on 11 February between 1030 and 2000 GMT.
