Superstar Dame Shirley Bassey entertained nearly 10,000 fans as she performed in the pouring rain at the Bryn Terfel Faenol festival. Dame Shirley had the audience laughing when she told them: "I know when I'm home in Wales because of this rain."
The star started off Sunday's concert with her hit Goldfinger and ended on a duet of We'll Keep a Welcome in the Hillside with Bryn Terfel.
The festival, now in its seventh year, finished on Monday evening.
It was the first concert in north Wales for the Cardiff-born star since her sell-out performance at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod's gala in 2003.
Canadian Matt Dusk, 27, was the warm-up, although his set was marred by a heavy downpour.
The weather improved whilst Dame Shirley belted out hits including Light My Fire, Something, Big Spender, New York New York, Hey Jude and new number He Needed Me.
Fans had travelled from all over the UK and beyond for the evening concert at the festival, which is held on a country estate between Caernarfon and Bangor.
Bryn Terfel was relaxed backstage as the crowds flocked in |
"It took us 10 hours to drive here from Cornwall which is 401 miles from Bangor," said Veronica Beck, at the event with her husband Bob.
"I'm a member of the Terfeliaid (Bryn Terfel's followers) and a group of us meet up when he performs, we call ourselves the Bryn Babes," she added.
Leslie Jones travelled from France, where he has lived for 15 years since his retirement.
"I came back to Wales for a wedding, and I'm originally from Bangor. I'm delighted to be able to combine it with coming here to the Faenol," said Mr Jones.
Festival organisers said before the event that "in the region of 10,000" tickets had been sold for the evening - compared to the sell-out 12,000 tickets sold for the Westlife concert which kicked off the four-day event on Friday.
Saturday's opera gala included international stars Angela Gheorghiu and Rolando Villazon.
The festival ended on Monday with the Tan y Ddraig (Dragon's Fire) evening featuring Anweledig, Scottish duo The Proclaimers as well as Elin Fflur, Dyfrig Evans and Huw Jones.
