Man hit by train 'serious'

The man was hit by the train 400 yards east of Colwyn Bay station

A man is seriously ill in intensive care after he was hit by a train just outside Colwyn Bay railway station.

The incident happened at around 1920 GMT on Monday when he was struck by the 1720 GMT Manchester Piccadilly to Holyhead train around 400 yards east of the station.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said the 30-year-old man, who is from the Colwyn Bay area, was taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan by ambulance.

His condition is described as "serious" and he has sustained facial injuries.

Detectives are still waiting to speak to him.

Train services were delayed for a time after the accident.

British Transport Police, who say the incident is not being treated as suspicious, are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 0800 405040.
