Walkers winched to safety
RAF Sea King helicopter
Rescue teams have had a busy start to the Easter holidays
The influx of holidaymakers to the mountains and coast of north Wales kept rescue teams busy on Good Friday with the RAF Valley helicopter called out three times in one day.

In two separate incidents in Snowdonia, a 35-year-old man and 44-year-old woman were both airlifted within 15 minutes of each other after falling on the mountains.

The man from Congleton, Cheshire, was rescued from Tryfan mountain in the Ogwen Valley after falling 10 feet onto a rocky ledge.

He was half-way up a 600-foot rock climbing route on First Pinnacle Rib when he fell.

He was rescued by members of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team and transported by a helicopter from RAF Valley to the base of the climb.

The Sea King helicopter was then called to rescue a woman who had slipped while walking on Snowdon.

They were both taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor with broken ankles.

Dinghy warning

On Anglesey, a 12-year-old boy suffering from mild hypothermia was airlifted to hospital from a west coast beach.

He had been in a speedboat, whose engine had failed off Rhosneigr, which had drifted before being towed ashore by Trearddur Bay inshore lifeboat.

An RAF Sea King helicopter from the nearby Valley base landed on the beach at Rhosneigr.

The boy was flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd for treatment accompanied by his uncle.

Meanwhile, coastguards have warned parents to be vigilant after six children out in dinghies had to be brought ashore by lifeboats in Barmouth and Llandudno.

A spokeswoman said strong winds were to blame for blowing the inflatable boats out to sea and capsizing them.

In another incident on Anglesey an off-duty member of the RAF's 22 squadron, Bart Simpson, was rescued by the Trearddur Bay lifeboat when the engine of his dinghy failed.
