Auditors look at housing repairs
Flintshire County Council sign
Investigations are continuing at Flintshire Council
External auditors have told Flintshire County councillors they may prepare a public interest report into housing repair issues at the authority.

PricewaterhouseCoopers said it is carrying out work which could see the document published in the spring.

The Direct Labour Organisation and housing maintenance department will make 2m losses by early 2006.

Director of community and Housing Steve Partner has been suspended in a 'neutral act'.

Auditor Lee Childs, of PricewaterhouseCoopers, made the announcement about the report during a five-hour meeting, held on Thursday.

At the meeting chief executive Philip McGreevy said he would also be leading a task group to tackle the problems with housing maintenance.

'Work closely'

The committee's chairman, Councillor Mel Higham, said: "We will continue to work closely with our external regulators to ensure that the appropriate actions are taken to address all of the issues in housing maintenance."

A council statement said urgent measures are being taken by the authority to address the 'issues'.

An interim director of community and housing will also be appointed in the new year.

According to the Audit Commission, an appointed auditor can issue a public interest report on any matter that has come to their notice during the audit.

They will consider whether it should be reported on immediately or at the end of the audit.
