Computer closure costs 50 jobs

Radstone will finally close at the end of May
A computer company in north Wales will close with the loss of 52 jobs after a last-ditch attempt to find a buyer failed.

Radstone Technology in Hawarden, Flintshire, which manufactures and assembles computer boards, has been in operation in the region for about three years.

Last year managers warned if a buyer was not found by February the plant would shut and the work transferred to its other site in Milton Keynes.

The decision to close the plant has been blamed on a slowdown in the manufacturing sector.

Managing director Jeff Perrin said staff were told of the redundancies on Tuesday.

"We've kept them up to date with progress," he said.

"We have two sites and there's insufficient demand for the capacity we have.

"The vast majority of staff will finish before 31 March and 19 will remain until around the end of May."

One or two members of staff were offered jobs in Milton Keynes but they did not want to move.

Flintshire County Council has said it is working with the WDA to identify local companies who could provide alternative job opportunities.
