Dishes such as grilled scallops and racks of lamb marinated in herbs have won a north Wales restaurant a prestigious title. Diners at the Tyddyn Llan Hotel, at Llandrillo near Corwen, have been so impressed with the cuisine they have written pages of complements to the Good Food Guide.
It has now been voted Wales Restaurant of the Year in the guide's 2004 edition.
Owner and chef Brian Webb took over last November, after 14 years of running a restaurant in London.
"It is good that everyone is complimenting each other," he said.

"You can come to Wales and eat good food in a lot of places, whereas before you may have had to drive 50 miles before you found a decent restaurant.
"There is quite a good selection of restaurants in north Wales and I hope when tourists come then they will enjoy good food."
The guide lists 1,300 of the best places to eat around the UK.
The Tyddyn Llan was praised for "cooking without frills" and its romantic atmosphere.
Andrew Turvil, editor of the Good Food Guide 2004, said: "It's all about the ingredients that he is buying and the simplicity of the way it is cooked.
"It doesn't have to be complex or intricate but it's natural, it's organic and it's wonderful.
"Brian was cooking in London before and he made a storm in London.
"He's gone back to Wales and the readers of the Good Food Guide have been writing in their droves since he took over at the Tyddyn Llan."
